South Suburan Coalition Against Gambling Expansion

Do you know that Country Club Hills, Calumet City, Harvey, and other communities are vying for the 10th casino license in Illinois? In this uncertain economy, why would anyone bank on such an unstable source of revenue? Research has repeatedly shown that the social costs of casino gambling offset any economic benefits!

Statistics show that once a casino comes in to a community: Bankruptcies increase by 18 percent. Local businesses, especially restaurants, are cannibalized. Crime increases sharply (extra police must be hired). Gambling addictions (accompanied by suicides) sharply increase.
